| Cara's connection to the island had her arriving late enough that she'd foregone heading anywhere but the apartment building (not hard considering it was practically the first building after the causeway) to retrieve her keys and head up to her apartment.
Shutting the door behind her, she dropped her pack on the table and looked around. Maybe she should open some windows to air the place out.
Not that it really needed it, she'd barely been gone two weeks. A point she'd made repeatedly when Richard and Kahlan started dropping pointed hints about whether she was missing the place (or the people), though beyond that she maybe hadn't exactly argued very hard with either of them in the end. Except for also pointing out she didn't actually stab that one ambassador who'd been an ass about Kahlan's choice of mates, or even specifically threatened to, she'd just made some pointed gestures when he wouldn't stop running his mouth off.
...correction, she was going to go hang her suddenly much more cold and wet leathers in the shower to dry, then she was going to open some windows and air the place.

| It had taken most of the afternoon, but Cara was finally glitter-free, and her likewise glitter-free leathers were carefully hung away.
After wrestling with the fastening on her dress (which had taken the non-glitter-removing part of her afternoon to find), and rescuing her hair after it got caught in the fastening, she sat down at the table to wait. Immediately she started drumming her fingers against the tabletop.
Within five minutes she was up and pacing, occasionally readjusting her cleavage.
So really, it was like any other random evening of hers. Nothing at all out of the ordinary. Nothing.

| Cara bustled around the kitchen, the part of her that was still just a wide-eyed, innocent country girl marvelling at the all the best modern appliances that money (passed over and accepted with no questions) could buy.
Putting the finishing touches on supper, she brought the plates over to the table, where various maps and blueprints were rolled out, held down at various corners with violin cases and lock-picks. This mightn't have been exactly the big city dream she'd back in Stowecroft, but it was the one she had now.

| Cara realised she's been neglecting that whole office hours thing, so here she was, in her office, doing vitally important preparation for her class on Thursday.
This vitally important preparation seemed to mostly involve moving a catnip-filled toy squirrel around her desk for Surreal to pounce on.
[Open door, open post.]

| Yesterday had been a good day for Cara by any standard, even her responsibility induced frustration had come with its share of amusement at her students expense.
Today was different, not exactly in a bad way, but her near relentless upbeat mood had been replaced with a bone-deep contentment and relaxation, that in some ways was an even rarer occurrence for Cara. Rarer still was her decision to forgo her leathers in favour of an oversized button-up and shorts from her minuscule stash of island acquired clothing for no reason other than she felt like it.
Sighing, she flopped down on the couch in a loose-limbed sprawl to watch the view from her living-room window.
You know, because she could.

| Cara was back in her office. Cara was also wondering which genius had designed such ill-defensible offices considering how regularly the island was invaded.
Not that she was worried about that, of course not. It was just good sense to consider these things.
Which was why she was rearranging her furniture to best fortify her office.
[Door closed, post open, mord'sith (mood)stoned.]

| Cara had an office, and while it was nowhere near as absurdly huge as her apartment, she wasn't really sure what to do with it.
Well, of course she knew what an office was for, but she was hardly swimming in paperwork, and she wasn't sure what else she was supposed to do in here all day because they didn't have Solitaire or Minesweeper or the internet in the Midlands. So for now she was just testing the sturdiness of the furniture, because that was good to know. Just in case.
Which totally required spinning in this giant leather chair.
[Door and post open.]

|
| It hadn't been a complete waste of her time, but Cara had been glad to leave the picnic behind her, in favour of actually going to the apartment she'd be staying in the next few months.
Which was on the top floor of the building.
Admittedly there were still less stairs than in the average Mord'Sith temple, and one of those elevator contraptions, but this is what happened when you didn't specify details when renting a place, Cara.
After absolutely no fumbling with the keys, she pushed the door open. "It's bigger than I expected."

| Waking up in a soft warm bed definitely ranked higher than the last time Cara'd woken on the island. However that didn't necessarily mean the day was going to stay better than last time. Without moving, she cracked open one eyelid. She didn't see anything different about the room, she didn't feel physically different, and considering how those weekends when everyone went insane usually went the fact she was concerned about being herself most likely meant she was.
In the absence of anything immediately off, Cara went against her better judgement and relaxed, closing her eyes and burrowing further under the covers.
