Room 418, Monday Evening

Cara no longer had a roommate. While she didn't object to sharing a living space, she was hardly going to deny that there was a certain pleasure in having your own rooms. Not least because some things were simply easier when there was a level of privacy she hadn't enjoyed since she'd last lived in a Mord'Sith temple. Such as taking proper care of her leathers.

Looking up from cleaning her boots, she wondered briefly why she hadn't noticed just how blank and featureless the material they made the walls out of was before this, especially in the harsh, steady glow of the lights they used here.

She pushed the thought deep down, since it hardly mattered, before getting up and going over to open the door. Not much, just enough that any ambient noise could filter through. She didn't trust any place that was too quiet.

Cara considered not answering, but if she did that he might ask other people, at least this way she could control what he heard. "I thought I was a princess. I spoke in rhyme." And if she ever saw the Margrave of Rothenburg again, she'd do more than knock him out for creating the association between the two in her head. "There was simpering...and dancing." She was not going to mention the dress if she could help it.

Bruce didn't laugh because he wasn't really the type to laugh at something like that. Mostly he was just thankful that he had never been led to believe that he was a princess. "It didn't last too long, did it?"

The lack of laughter was good, because Cara would have then had to hurt Bruce, and they'd both regret that.

"More than long enough." Of course, as far as Cara was concerned, any amount of time thinking she was a princess was too long.

"On the positive side, at least now you have a story to try to hide from people," Bruce said. Okay, not laughing, but maybe being a little sarcastic.

Much as it stung her pride, Cara would have been grateful if that was the worst thing she had to hide from people.

Of course, since she had no intention of letting anyone know she had anything worse to hide, she rolled her eyes. "I'm glad one of us can see a positive side."

"Well, the real positive is that it hasn't happened to me yet," Bruce said. "But I'm pretty certain you're not going to agree with me there."

"Your powers of insight are stunning."

"I've tried to hone them over the years," Bruce said.

"In between your golf games?" Cara asked, much too sweetly.

"Yes. And if you ever tried playing it, you'd probably be hooked," Bruce opined.

"Only if you're allowed to hit something other than the ball." And by something, she meant other players.

"Well, you probably could do that, but you'd never be allowed back on the course," Bruce said. "And you might get arrested."

"That would be awkward," Cara admitted. Though at least there'd be less chance of a lynch mob than the last time she'd gotten arrested.
