Cara's connection to the island had her arriving late enough that she'd foregone heading anywhere but the apartment building (not hard considering it was practically the first building after the causeway) to retrieve her keys and head up to her apartment.

Shutting the door behind her, she dropped her pack on the table and looked around. Maybe she should open some windows to air the place out.

Not that it really needed it, she'd barely been gone two weeks. A point she'd made repeatedly when Richard and Kahlan started dropping pointed hints about whether she was missing the place (or the people), though beyond that she maybe hadn't exactly argued very hard with either of them in the end. Except for also pointing out she didn't actually stab that one ambassador who'd been an ass about Kahlan's choice of mates, or even specifically threatened to, she'd just made some pointed gestures when he wouldn't stop running his mouth off.

...correction, she was going to go hang her suddenly much more cold and wet leathers in the shower to dry, then she was going to open some windows and air the place.
